Gabriel Fauré - Requiem

Surely the best loved of Fauré’s works, the Requiem contains some of the most gorgeous melodies he ever composed. At turns serene, elevating and comforting, it eschews the fire and brimstone of other requiems, instead focusing on eloquent understatement and gentle reverence. It is gloriously filled with rich soulful melodies and ethereal beauty. Promising eternal rest and consolation, the heavenly voices of the In Paradisum ending lift us up into a world of perpetual peace.

Richard Blackford - Mirror of Perfection

In this vibrant, critically acclaimed work of 1996, Blackford takes the delightful but little-known poetry of St Francis of Assisi and builds a powerful cantata of great lyrical beauty. Demonstrating a simple and profound delight in Creation, it is an impassioned plea for peace among mankind in a setting of intense power and vocal dynamism.
